International Choir Festival

The Chase Orpheus Male Voice Choir was formed in 1968 by the amalgamation of several colliery and village choirs in South Staffordshire. In 1986 the title was changed to Cannock Chase Orpheus Male Choir to include the name of the town in which the choir is based.

The choir was invited to enter the inaugural Malta International Music Festival where it was placed first in the Male Choir Section. It has also, on two occasions, performed in Germany in addition to taking part in an Anglo-French Music Festival where the choir sang in Chartres Cathedral and in Paris.

The choir was privileged to to be invited to take part in the Memorial Service for the late Larry Grayson in St. Paul's Church (the "Actors' Church"), Covent Garden, London, where many stars of stage and television were generous in their praises of the choir's singing.

The choir has, more recently, performed at venues as far apart as Ayr and Troon in Scotland and Portland and Bournemouth on the South Coast, also in the Rhondda Valley and the Cathedrals of Lincoln and Lichfield. Special Guests at recent Annual Celebrity Concerts have been the Central Band of the Royal Air Force (this concert was compéred by Roy Hudd) and the Joe Loss Big Band with Todd Miller. Our 2008diary is well advanced.

In June 2003 the Choir took part in the Mass and afterwards gave a recital at Westminister Metropolitan Roman Catholic Cathedral. It was the first Male Choir ever to be given this privilege.

The majority of the concerts are given in aid of various charities. The choir has a membership of approximately sixty singers. New applications for membership are invited and always welcome.
